About Me
Who am I? Uh, yeah, good question...
My offline name is Laura, and I live and work in the craziness of Silicon Valley.
My online name is Laranth. In my head, sometimes I think I'm a dragon. Thus, the name.
Ok, now you're asking "Where'd the dragons come from?" I blame it on all those fantasy books I read in junior high & hgh school. I was impressionable. And dragons just stuck. So anyway, online and in my head, there's [ dragons ] lurking about.
I like fantasy, it's good for both escapism *and* for looking at the society you live in from a different angle. Like, say, what would happen if people had telepathy. Would people fight less or more? That kinda thing. So I've read a lot of [ books ], and I had pretensions of being an [ artist ]. But now, I work in computers.
I'm currently [ employed ] as a "Product Design Engineer" for PMC-Sierra. Essentially, I help design the computer chips that move a lot of data around the internet. It's only been a year since I graduated as an EECS major from [ UC Berkeley ], so I'm not a super-duper-dot-com-trooper, nor do I have much experience, but for this economy it's good.
In my free time, I still read, but now I mess around on my [ computer ] much more than before college. I play computer games like Everquest, and I design webpages, and I occasionally code random projects. Oh, and I pretend I know what I'm doing on Linux.
The rest is just cosmetic [ details ], and if you're looking for [ opinions ], well, you know where to go.
Wait, almost forgot something. Or rather, someone. Very important. [ Mike ]. My [ fiancé ]. My sweetie. No, you can't have him. He's *mine*.
